Professional Students : Waiving Procedure

Summary of OSU Student Health Insurance options: Comprehensive Plan, WilceCare Supplement, and Waiver.

If you already have comparable health insurance coverage (through a parent, spouse, employer, etc.) and do not wish to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must submit an online waiver by the published deadline of your initial term of enrollment each academic year.

It is your responsibility to view your online Account Statement at the beginning of each term to ensure that it reflects the appropriate level of Student Health Insurance coverage regardless of your college's or a University program’s involvement in your registration process and/or who is paying your bill. 

Please have a copy of your health insurance card with you before you begin the process.

NOTE: These bulleted instructions are specific to domestic students. Please scroll down for instructions specific to international students.

  • Go to www.buckeyelink.osu.edu.
  • Navigate to your "Student Center".
  • Scroll down to the "Finances" section.
  • Under the "Student Health Insurance" heading, click on "Select/Waive Coverage".
  • Follow the prompts until you receive your confirmation number.  (The process is not complete until you have received your confirmation number.) 
  • Print or write down your confirmation number. 
  • Confirm that you have successfully waived your Student Health Insurance by viewing your online Account Statement.  Your selection should be reflected on your Account Statement within 1-2 business days. 

International Students:

International students who wish to submit a request for review for exemption from coverage will need to complete an International Student Health Insurance Waiver form.

  • Download the International Student Health Insurance Waiver Form from the Important Forms section of this website.
  • Submit the completed waiver form and supporting documents to the Student Health Insurance Office at the address on the form.
