UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) and HealthSmart Benefit Solutions/HealthSmart RX partner with us to administer all but the adult dental portion of your benefits, including vision.

Delta Dental of Ohio is our partner for dental coverage for members 19 years and older.

1. Your provider choices can help you save money. Use our Find a Provider page.

When you’re seeking care, you’ll save the most at Ohio State Columbus-campus locations, which we call our Tier One providers:

If those aren’t available, try the next coverage level called Tier Two (“Preferred”) providers:

  • OSU Health Plan Network inside Franklin County
  • UnitedHealthcare Options PPO and United Behavioral Health networks outside Franklin County
  • Seeing providers who are not Tier One or Tier Two will likely result in much higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • For adult dental, your network locations are Delta Dental PPO/Delta Dental Premier Networks.

2. Your Member ID card is your proof of insurance. Show it to providers when you use services.

  • To access and print an ID card from online, go to “Login to My Account,” then click “Create Account” and then enter your name, date of birth, and Ohio State student ID number. Once inside your account, click “ID Card information” for printing instructions.  
  • ID cards will no longer be mailed to your address on file.  A hard copy ID card is available upon request via  
  • For dental coverage for members 19 years and older, you won’t receive a permanent Delta Dental ID card. Instead, go to and clicking “New User” under Toolkits & Resources to print one.

 3. Keep your address up to date so you can receive important mail.

  • Check your My Buckeye Link > Personal Information > Home/Current Address and edit as needed. You need to be able to receive mail at this address, because UHCSR, HealthSmart, and Delta Dental will mail you important communications about your benefits.

4. More about Pediatric Dental:

  • UHCSR provides primary coverage for members under 19 years of age, and Delta Dental of Ohio provides secondary coverage. Dental providers can seek reimbursement payments from both HealthSmart and Delta Dental, which can in turn reduce your financial responsibility. 

  • How it works if you're under 19:

    • You need to make sure you utilize a dental provider who is part of the Delta Dental Premier and PPO Networks, or at Student Health Services and College of Dentistry Student Clinic. 

    • At your appointment, show them both your UHCSR and Delta Dental Member ID cards. Ask the provider to submit claims first to HealthSmart (via the information on the back of your UHCSR card) and next to Delta Dental. 

 5. Your prescription benefit follows a formulary.

  • A formulary is a list of covered medications organized by how they’ll be paid (see link above).
  • To fill a prescription, you can use the Wilce Student Health Center Pharmacy and any retail pharmacy in the HealthSmart RX Network.
  • Specialty medications have a separate formulary and coverage and must be filled by Accredo Specialty Pharmacy. Your doctor sends the prescription directly to Accredo and then you call 1-877-222-7336 to coordinate shipping. Accredo does not have storefront locations. 

 6. You can travel with confidence.

  • Your plan includes UnitedHealthcare Global coverage for travel and medical assistance, evacuation and repatriation when you are 100+ miles from home, as well as other benefits. Note for our international student members: this coverage is not active when you are in your home country.

For returning members: What’s changing in 2018-19


  • Hard copy member ID cards will NOT be mailed to members this policy year.  Members find the current option of online access convenient and flexible, and will be able to print a copy of the ID card by visiting the UnitedHealthcare StudentResources policy page.  A hard copy of the ID will still available by requesting one from UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR). 


  • Accredo Specialty Pharmacy is our new partner for all specialty medications.  Current affected members have already been notified regarding the change.  Members may contact Accredo at 877-222-7336 to set up an account.  Providers may contact Accredo at 866-716-7204.
