FIND THE RIGHT PROVIDER – Understanding the Provider Network
Some covered services may require you to pay a portion of the cost – such as a deductible, copay, or coinsurance amount. Your provider choices can help you save money by reducing these out-of-pocket costs. Visit our Health Insurance Literacy Tool for help in understanding these terms.
Visit our Find a Provider page to see a listing of TIER 1 and TIER 2 providers as well as options for Online Providers, Dental Providers and Pharmacy Options.
TIER 1 - When you are seeking care, you will save the most at Columbus campus providers designated as TIER 1 – where many services have no out of pocket costs. These include:
- Wilce Student Health Center – medical, dental* and prescription drug* services
- Counseling and Consultation Service – mental health services
- College of Optometry Clinics – vision services*
- College of Dentistry Student Clinics – dental services*
*Co-pay amounts may apply for prescription drug, dental and vision services.
TIER 2 – Students at Regional Campuses or traveling outside the Columbus area should use TIER 2 providers to reduce their out-of-pocket costs. For a list of providers designated as TIER 2 (some services have a deductible, copay, or coinsurance) visit:
- OSU Health Plan Network – providers in the Columbus area (inside Franklin County).
- If you are looking for providers outside the Columbus area (outside Franklin County), be sure to use the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus and United Behavioral Health provider networks.
TIER 3 and TIER 4 - Seeing providers in TIER3 or TIER 4 may result in much higher out-of-pocket costs.
DENTAL PROVIDER NETWORK - For adult dental, your off-campus provider network is the Delta Dental PPO or the Delta Dental Premier Networks.
PHARMACY OPTIONS - At the Wilce Student Health Center Pharmacy or an OptumRx network pharmacy location, you pay only your co-insurance and applicable minimum cost when you pick up your prescription. Use the Find a Pharmacy look up tool to find a pharmacy near you.
Need to fill a prescription this week? It may take up to five (5) business days before UHCSR has your information. What should you do?
· Ask the pharmacist to dispense a smaller initial amount and pick up the rest later.
· Ask the doctor for a short-term sample.
· Pay for the cost of the prescription and submit a form for reimbursement.
