HealthSmart Pharmacy Network Update notice Effective 01-01-2023

November 21, 2022

This email was sent by HealthSmart Rx to SHBP members with an existing Kroger pharmacy prescription:

You are receiving this communication because you or an insured member covered under the Ohio State Student Health Benefits Plan have been identified as filling a prescription(s) at Kroger’s Pharmacy or an affiliate of Kroger. You may have received a communication from Express Scripts (Express Scripts is HealthSmart’s business partner who assists in the management of your prescription drug benefits) stating that Kroger Pharmacy will be out of network for the Express Scripts pharmacy network effective January 1, 2023

What does this mean?  Beginning January 1, 2023, Kroger pharmacy will be out of network for prescription drugs. If you choose to continue to use Kroger, you will pay higher out-of-pocket costs for your prescriptions.

What do I need to do? To ensure there is no disruption with your medications, please act now. You can transfer existing prescriptions to another in-network pharmacy. Here’s how to do this:

  • Have your prescription bottle or package with you when you talk with the pharmacy you want to transfer your prescription(s) to. They will need to know the prescription number and may ask for other information from the label on the prescription package to give to Kroger. The pharmacy of your choice may contact Kroger to transfer the prescription.
  • Some of the most common pharmacies that are in-network with Express Scripts are:
    • CVS
    • OSU Student Health Services Pharmacy
    • Walgreens
    • Giant Eagle
    • Equitas Health Pharmacy
    • Wal-Mart
    • Meijer Pharmacy
    • Rite Aid

If you don’t see the pharmacy you would like to use on this list, please call HealthSmart’ s Rx’s Customer Service Team at 800-681-3912.

IMPORTANT – you or your dependent may have a prescription for a Class 2 drug. These drugs may be used to treat ADHD, severe pain, anxiety, and insomnia.  If you have a Class 2 prescription, you will need to get a new prescription from your provider. For questions about Class 2 prescriptions, please call HealthSmart’ s Rx’s Customer Service Team at 800-681-3912.

If you have any questions or require assistance, you may contact HealthSmart’s Rx’s Customer Service Team at 800-681-3912.
