Selection Procedures

To select the SHI BENEFITS PLAN before the deadline:

Remember that if you waived for autumn semester, you can newly select the SHI Benefits Plan or WilceCare for spring/summer if you do so before the date university spring fees are due. 

  1. Log into your My Buckeye Link
  2. In the Finances section (middle of page), locate “Student Health Insurance” in bold on the left.
  3. Click the Select/Waive Coverage link. 
  4. Click the Purchase Student Health Insurance Benefits Plan button and then select the Academic Term. NOTE: If you expect to graduate in Autumn or otherwise not return for Spring/Summer, you still need to select the "AU, SP, SU" term option from the drop down menu; however, you will not be billed for or covered by the plan in Spring/Summer if you do not return as an enrolled student. Click Next.
  5. On the Selection and Dependents page, enter the coverage level you want in the "Insurance Level" drop down. The default level will be "Student Only” or the level you selected for the previous policy year. If this is the level you want, click Next and skip to instruction step 8. If you need to make a change, select the drop down item and proceed to step 6.
  6. For coverage for one or more dependents, select the appropriate level from the drop down menu.
  7. Enter accurate information for the dependent in the required fields. For each additional dependent (as applicable), click the “Add” button and enter all requirement information. When the correct dependents appear, click Next.
  8. Continue to enter information as prompted until you get to the Confirmation page. A confirmation number means you've successfully completed the choice process. The numbers does NOT mean you have health insurance coverage. Retain your confirmation number for your records, or access it at any point in your My Buckeye Link via the "View Insurance Information" link.
  9. SHI Benefits coverage and WilceCare Supplement purchase are confirmed only when the appropriate fee posts to your Statement of Account. The fee will post if you meet credit hour and course eligibility. Remember that your eligibility can change if you make changes to your academic classes. 
  10. If you Waive the SHI Benefits Plan, it can take 1-2 business days for your Statement of Account to update. If you selected a new SHI Benefits Plan coverage level or the WilceCare Supplement to accompany a waiver, it will also take 1-2 business days for your Statement of Account to update. Thank you for your patience. Check your Statement of Account each semester to make sure it reflects the appropriate health insurance selection or waiver, regardless of who is paying your bill and/or your academic program’s involvement in your registration.

Note: Effective summer 2016, if you wish to apply Title IV federal financial aid funds to your Student Health Insurance fee, you must grant permission in your Student Center before the date that aid disburses for the term. 

  1. Log into your Student Center, click on "other financial" at the bottom left of the Finances section, and select View Student Permissions from the drop-down menu.  
  2. Click on Grant Permissions and follow the instructions. 
To select the WILCECARE SUPPLEMENT (and WAIVE the SHI Benefits Plan):

*Note: Your selection must be completed prior to the applicable Select/Waive deadline.*

  1. Log into your My Buckeye Link
  2. In the Finances section (middle of page), locate “Student Health Insurance” in bold on the left.
  3. Click the Select/Waive Coverage link that appears below “Student Health Insurance.”
  4. Click the Purchase WilceCare Supplement and Waive SHI Benefits Plan (I have other medical insurance for the academic year) button and select the Academic Term. Click Next.
  5. You will jump to the Waiver Information page. (Remember, the WilceCare Supplement is not insurance and therefore you need to have comprehensive coverage along with it.)
  6. Click the magnifying glass icon to select the name of your insurance company from an alphabetized list of common insurance companies that appears. If your insurance company does not appear in the pop-out listing, don't panic: just select “Other” from that list, and then type your insurance's name into the “Insurance Company Other” box that appears below.
  7. Continue to enter information in all required fields as prompted until you get to the Confirmation page. When you receive a confirmation number, it means you've successfully completed the process of submitting your WilceCare + Waiver choice; the confirmation number does NOT mean you have WilceCare. WilceCare is confirmed only when the appropriate fee posts to your Statement of Account. 
  8. Retain your confirmation number for your records, or access it at any point in your My Buckeye Link via the "View Insurance Information" link.
  9. ***YOUR STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY REFLECT THE WILCECARE FEE. It can take 1-2 business days for your account to update and for the correct fee to post.  For example, if you receive your confirmation screen on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, your fee may not update until Tuesday.***
  10.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your Statement of Account reflects the appropriate health insurance selection or waiver each academic term, regardless of who is paying your bill and/or your academic program’s involvement in your registration.
  11. Note: If you select the WilceCare Supplement and the insurance information you’ve entered in your waiver changes at any point in the year, please email a copy of your new insurance card or policy information to shi_info@osu.edu so that our records adequately reflect your active coverage. 

 

To select the SHI BENEFITS PLAN after the Select/Waive deadline

If you are unable to initiate or complete the procedures, you must submit a Petition to Enroll.
